Petition to Fully Investigate Deaths Caused By Dogs

smallaggressivedogFor the last few years I have pushed  MP’s, Police, experts, DEFRA and Government via letters and meeting for deaths and serious injuries caused by dogs to be fully investigated. In the case of one tragic death of a baby caused by a dog, I had the support of the local MP and the child’s parents to assess the dogs and despite repeatedly asking the force involved to allow it, they held the dogs for a week, then destroyed them.  We learned nothing.

Separation Anxiety in Dogs, did you Cause It?

gsdpup2Separation Anxiety seems to be the “go to” diagnosis for anything undesirable a dog does that happens when you are out.  It isn’t always the cause of barking, messing, chewing, digging or self harm.  Lack of exercise, stimulation, shouted at instead of trained, all of these can be the real cause.  True SA is a dog who has serious insecurities, apparent even when you are there.  These dogs struggle with life in general, are afraid and insecure.  Sometimes it’s the owner that actually created it. Rage Syndrome in dogs, Spaniels

cockerThe term “rage syndrome” appeared many years ago, initially describing a type of unpredictable, explosive aggression in Cocker Spaniels.  It was even called “Cocker rage” for a while.  There is still no definitive test or explanation for it, but generally it is thought to be a condition that is possibly linked to epilepsy.  The problem is that since this condition was recognised, almost every incidence of biting in Spaniels of any breed, and some other breeds is now diagnosed as rage and dogs are put down unnecessarily.

I am writing this because for some reason a lot more cases are being discussed on social media in the last few weeks.  I worry dogs are being put down who do not have it, but someone decided they have. Continue reading →

Bravo Working Dog Rescue, urgent appeal

bravo-logo-newI have run my own rescue for many years, specialising in the bigger and more difficult dogs and problems.  Offering specialist rehab and rehoming.  Out of this, came opportunities to make good contacts in the world of working dogs.

We were always helping retiring and failed working dogs to go into a pet retirement or into a safe, working home.  The numbers of this increased until we decided to give this rescue its own identity.  So Bravo Working Dog Rescue was born a couple of years ago.

We now need your help urgently.

poppymemesmlrUntil April we had the use of a kennel block, but were told earlier in the year that site development meant we would lose it, which happened in April.  A few months ago we started a fund raising effort to raise £5,000 for kennels.  This has gone slowly, but we thank Five Mile Media for their amazing efforts to keep money coming in.

These hero dogs keep your world safe, track lost people, find drugs, guns and explosives.  Catch your criminals,  allow you to fly safely and protect your workplaces.  Too many now are sold or put to sleep on retirement, we feel this is wrong.

We have found a property to lease long term which is perfect for us to run and extend the rescue work. This fund is now urgent, we need your help.

Please share this, any donation helps us to help the dogs.

Foster homes, adopters, fundraisers and volunteers are always needed.  Please see our full website for information.

We also help, young dogs with issues to find a working home where appropriate and offer various help packages for dogs who have been adopted from other rescues, dogs looking for rescue space who need assessment and imported dogs.  Our main scheme offers a cheap behaviour assessment in your home that means you can get some advice for a cheap price, which comes to us as a donation.

ASBO Dogs, Bravo Working Dog Rescue Urgent Appeal

bravo-logo-newWe have run our own rescue for at least 20 years.  Now we urgently need your help. As behaviourists, we have tried to take the difficult to place dogs into rescue for rehab before homing.  The biters and the fighters that nobody can help.  We have always specialised in the working breeds, GSD’s, Rotties, etc that we own personally and love so much.  This led into working homes and working opportunities as some of these dogs, including many gun dog breeds, need a job.

Have you ever wondered who can help the dogs who make serious mistakes?  Or what happens to retiring police or security dogs? Continue reading →

Border Collie dog biting children, now a training success

colliepup-cropMeet Bob as a baby.  This lovely boy grew up to be a naughty adolescent and nearly got pts when he bit one of the children he lived with.  Despite huge pressure from family friends, the vet and a behaviourist, this lovely family realised they might need to take some blame and got our help.  This case is being updated now, 3 years on from the incident to show that retrained successfully, the training stays put.  I was delighted to get their email, they have since had a third child too!
