Donating a dog to Police or Security for working training

Firstly we want to be clear that Debbie Connolly, our founder has worked alongside Police, Security and other working handlers for many years.  We have helped lots of dogs make a safe transition into or out of working homes.  To this end, after years of doing this, we created Bravo Working Dog Rescue this year to formalise this work.  Whilst a few companies have supported this work, many, including Police have continued dangerous rehoming practises. I want to Adopt Children, is my Dog Suitable?

My most recent success case involves a lovely couple with a problem Lab cross who wanted to adopt a child.  After the aggressive display the dog made when a Social Worker came round, they weren’t going to get any further.  Family said get rid of the dog, but to their credit they asked for our help first and after 6 months work have just adopted a gorgeous baby boy. My Dog Was Attacked by Another Dog, What Can I do?

We read every day about dogs being injured by other dogs, sometimes fatally.  Although I work closely with several police forces, they often give poor advice about the law as it stands now and what can be done.  My latest advocacy was for a Registered Assistance Dog that had been repeatedly attacked by the same dog and Police persistently said nothing could be done as man not bitten.  The attacking dog is now removed to rescue. Disability Assistance dogs in Olympic Torch Relay

Personal note:

I know Wendy, Karen and their dogs Udo and Coco personally.  Amazing women who work hard for the charities that have helped them.  I have always been impressed with the level of training these dogs receive, the difference it makes to an independent lifestyle.  I am proud to count them as friends.

PRESS RELEASE:  11th April 2012 – FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Bravo to the UK’s First Working Dog Rescue Centre

Recent media stories have highlighted the sad end of many working dogs who have given their lives to protecting humans and our country, only to be let down for their loyalty.  The shocking release of MOD figures, showing that over 800 dogs have been put to sleep in the last decade, has again made animal lovers question whether it is ethical to have dogs working for humans.
