Is my dog a Pitbull? Dangerous Dogs Act and your dog

There are still many myths and rubbish being repeated about the DDA and what can happen if your dog is a Pitbull.  Please don’t get your advice from Facebook or the man in the pub.  There are several reputable places you can get advice such as Deed Not Breed and DDA watch and doglaw.co.uk a solicitors specialising in cases.  Your dog can  be seized if it looks like it could be a pitbull or a pitbull cross, it really is that simple.  It is illegal to buy, sell, exchange, give away or breed from a Pit Bull or Pit Bull type under the DDA. All puppies are cute, sellers rely on you seeing a lovely, pretty pup and buying it even, and sometimes especially if it’s dirty, covered in fleas and thin.  They do see you coming.  Giving your money to these scammers, puppy farmers and back yard breeders has to stop, it’s why these poor dogs are still living a life of abuse to make money. Problem cat behaviour, help and advice

See any pets for sale site and Facebook page and there are dozens of cats being passed on because of easily solved problems.  For some reason people seem less inclined to spend money on behaviour help for cats than they do on dogs.  Spraying, fighting and straying can usually be solved, don’t give up before you’ve tried.  Continue reading →

Stray, Found or Lost Cats and Dogs

There is always a  lot of confusion about what to do if you find or lose a dog or cat.  People who find animals often wrongly assume the owner dumped the animal or at least was negligent, especially if the dog or cat is in a bit of a mess.  A stolen animal can often be badly abused, used as bait for fighting, attacked, starved, dumped, all manner of things.  This can mean a pet looking fine, quickly looks a mess.  So do not assume the owner of the dog is responsible and resist returning it.  This is cruel and also theft.  Continue reading →

Press Release for Debbie Connolly

Open Letter to the Coalition Government, Welsh Assembly and puppy farmers
Dear Sirs
In celebrating the 20th anniversary of the Dangerous Dogs Act, we have more dog problems now than ever before so as a professional in animal behaviour, the irony is not lost on me when in just one week Carwyn Jones, the Welsh Assembly First Minister announced: “We will be bringing forward new legislation to ensure that irresponsible breeding in so called ‘puppy farms’ is brought to an end.
“We aim to bring forward revised legislation for further consultation by the National Assembly this autumn.”
